Preventive removal of via ferrata equipment from EDELRID

EDELRID is proceeding to the withdrawal of the equipment of via ferrata Cable Lite, Cable Comfort, Brenta Comfort, Cable Lite 2.0, Cable Comfort 2.0, Cable Kit 4.0 and Cable Kit Xtra-Light Schuster as a preventive measure.

In the via ferrata EDELRID equipment manufactured in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 with the article names:

It has been found that, in certain cases, the ribbons of elastic arms for carabiners may no longer meet regulatory requirements in case of heavy use. Thus, the protective effect of via ferrata equipment could be eliminated or only reduced, which in case of fall could lead to serious injuries or even death.

EDELRID guarantees the quality and safety of all its products, which are developed, certified, manufactured and shipped in compliance with all legally established standards. In order to rule out any risk to users, as manufacturers they proceed to withdraw the aforementioned products as a preventive measure.

With this withdrawal, EDELRID responds to an accident in via ferrata that occurred on 05.08.2012 with a rented via ferrata equipment and that had fatal consequences. Through the examinations carried out, it was detected that, in case of strong wear, the elastic arms could be weakened. Until the date of announcement of the withdrawal, 16.08.2012, it has not yet been possible to conclusively clarify the real cause of the accident, either by the responsible experts or by EDELRID.

Not affected by the recall are the equipment of via ferrata Cable Vario, Cable Ultralight, Cable Ultralight 2.0, Cable Kit 2.0, Cable Kit 3.0, Brenta Lite and Brenta de Luxe from EDELRID.

EDELRID will submit all via ferrata equipment it receives to a series of technical tests to ensure safety, replace the elastic arms for carabiners and proceed to the return of the equipment to its owner as soon as possible.
