Suspension, adjustment and ventilation systems in Osprey backpacks

Osprey uses different technologies in its backpacks to ensure maximum ventilation, comfort and fit, which make them the best backpacks in the world.

AirSpeed

AirSpeed ventilation system for Osprey backpacks

The AirSpeed™ ventilation system is based on a very taut mesh back that stays in contact with the body and leaves a space between the back and the back panel of the backpack. This provides excellent air circulation and upper ventilation in the back. In addition, the sides of the mesh are crescent-shaped which provides greater lateral ventilation.

All surfaces of contact with the body are breathable mesh or molded foam rubber with large ventilation points. The fabrics used by the AirSpeed system are very light but with a high strength and durability since they seek the best possible weight-performance ratio.

AirSpeed is a very light system, with excellent ventilation, comfortable to wear and adjust to the body, which makes it ideal for activities as varied as mountaineering, excursions of all kinds or sports activities.

The AirSpeed system incorporates the Atmos, Aura, Exos, Eja, Sirrus or Stratos families of backpacks.

AirScape

Airscape system in Osprey backpacks

The Osprey AirScape™ rear panel is formed by several sections of striated or grooved foam that create channels for air to circulate and provide extra ventilation in the upper back and lower back. It also has a spacer mesh cover that provides greater breathability and comfort in the contact of the backpack with the body.

The rear panels adapt to the shape of the back while keeping the load close to the center of gravity of the body. This provides a great level of stability and comfort when moving quickly.

The AirScape system incorporates the families of backpacks Aether, Ariel, Escapist, Kestrel, Kyte, Talon or Tempest.

LightWire

The LightWire™ suspension consists of a peripheral frame that transmits the weight of the load to the lumbar belt. It has a HDPE frame plate with a single central structure of aluminum 6061-T6 that transmits the load in an optimal way and allows you to carry the weight of the backpack with greater comfort.

The LightWire suspension incorporates sirrus or stratos backpacks.

ExoformExoform system in Osprey Exos backpacks

New system of shoulder pads and lumbar belt that only uses a mesh on the outside in contact with the body which reduces weight but maximizes comfort. The outer layer is an open mesh that has inside another multilayer spacer mesh that adds more comfort. Another benefit of using mesh instead of foam is that it adds extra ventilation to the body contact areas.

The Exoform system is available in the Atmos and Aura backpacks from the 2014 season.

BioStretchBioStretch system in Osprey backpacks

Osprey’s BioStretch™ shoulder pads and lumbar belt are made of a perforated foam covered with a mesh to offer maximum comfort and ventilation.

Between the mesh and the perforations in the foam, excellent ventilation is achieved at the points of contact and an optimal fit to the contour of the body.

The BioStretch system incorporates the Atmos, Aura, Escapist, Talon or Tempest backpacks.

IsoForm

IsoForm shoulder pads have a specific cut in addition to various pad thicknesses that allow them to adapt to the particular contour of the body of each sex, thus creating an anatomical adjustment to the neck, shoulders and chest. It has a seamless spacer mesh so that contact with the body is as tight and comfortable as possible. The shoulder pads are interchangeable and available in various sizes.

The IsoForm lumbar belt is made of a double density foam that can be molded with heat to suit the specific curve of each person. For this you need a specific heat machine from Osprey (Custom Molding). The belt is specific for men or women and has great firmness and cushioning so it gives a superior carrying capacity. They are also interchangeable and available in various sizes.

Bioform

The shoulder pads and the Bioform lumbar belt have the same characteristics as the Isoform with the exception that they are a little more robust with which they extend the carrying capacity of the backpack so you can carry more weight comfortably.

ErgoPull

ErgoPull system in Osprey backpacks

ErgoPull™ is a quick and simple system to close and adjust the lumbar belt. It is composed of a clip closure on the center buckle and a pair of handles on each side. When closing the buckle, simply pulling the two pulls tightens the belt until it is well attached to the contour of the hip.

ErgoPull’s design not only generates tension in the center of the belt but also in the top and bottom so that the pressure is evenly distributed over the pads and direct pressure on the hip bone is relieved.

ErgoPull closure is available on virtually all Osprey backpackmodels.

High Road™ ChassisHigh Road Rack of Osprey Travel Backpacks

All Osprey wheeled travel backpacks use the High Road™ chassis, a lightweight, strong and easy-to-slip frame.

This frame has a 6061 aluminum frame and a very light and resistant ABS base molded with fiberglass grafts. In the same base it has an integrated foot to be able to keep the backpack vertically and two large wheels of high traction polyurethane with sealed bearings. The handle is ergonomic and retractable with integrated ventilation fins. The design is designed so that the backpack has a large space.

Available in travel Osprey trolleys.
